Are you a good driver? Okay, seems like a strange question. Frankly, how many would admit if they weren’t a good driver? We all know you’re out there. Hit a few curbs going around the corner, scraped the side mirror in the garage, I see you! (And you’re laughing at yourself!) You are probably the same person who, no matter how hard you try, hit every pothole in the road!

Learning to be a good driver takes a lot of patience. Do you remember sitting behind the wheel for the first time? It was intimidating. You can’t rush the process; there’s too much to remember. Consistent practice is a requirement. My mother helped me learn to drive; however, she was not a patient teacher or passenger! I can smile about it now. My early lessons taught me the traffic laws; the driving experiences made me understand the importance of safety and accountability. No matter how “cool” you wanted to be, a good teacher made sure you understood and recognized how serious the responsibility and privilege truly was.

All new drivers require patience, trust and understanding from our instruction. Similarly, Proverbs 3:5-6 calls us to trust God beyond what we understand. Our natural desire is to figure everything out on our own, but faith invites us to surrender control and place our confidence in God’s wisdom. Patience grows when we stop leaning on our limited perspective and begin relying on His faithful direction.

When we submit our ways to Him, God promises to make our paths straight. That does not always mean the journey will be immediate or easy, but it does mean He will guide us with purpose. When we Focus on Jesus, we can trust Him patiently, knowing every step surrendered to Him is never wasted.

Prayer: Lord, help me trust You with all my heart and surrender the need to understand everything right away. Lead me with patience, guide my steps, and teach me to follow Your direction with confidence. Amen.
