Guarded by God’s Peace

08-26-2026 - John Scott | Philippians 4:6-7

Did you know … In 2024, the U.S. population was estimated at 340 million. In that, approximately 18% are represented by those who are 65 years and older. Here is the staggering statistic for our seniors; almost 10% of them, aged 65 and older, suffer with dementia. It is one of the most debilitating diseases we see. Unfortunately, my aunt is currently battling with dementia. Here is the blessing; my aunt has her husband, my uncle, as her daily caretaker. He is a man of God and, as he tells me all the time, God will see me through!

Caring for a loved one with dementia can be emotionally heavy, especially when daily life becomes unpredictable and the person you love begins to change in painful ways. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” It invites us to bring every situation to God through prayer, petition, and thanksgiving. This does not mean the burden is simple or easy, but it does mean the caregiver does not have to carry anxiety alone. God welcomes every concern, every exhausted prayer, and every need for strength.

Overcoming this challenge begins with surrendering each day to God rather than trying to control every outcome. Prayer becomes a place to release fear, receive wisdom, and find renewed patience. God’s peace may not explain everything, but it can guard the heart and mind when life feels overwhelming. Focus on Jesus, and as you care for others, allow the Lord to care for you, giving you grace for today and hope for tomorrow.

Prayer: Lord, guard my heart and mind with Your peace. Give me patience, wisdom, and grace for each day as I care for others and lean on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Peace & Blessings!
