In the book of Genesis, we are introduced to a familiar story and situation. The story centers on the destruction of the cities Sodom and Gomorrah. The cites were destroyed by God for the sin that permeated the people. Lot and his family, being the only people to have favor with God were spared and told to leave. The only prerequisite was that they were not to look back. As they proceeded to leave the city, Lot’s wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of Salt. Lot’s wife symbolizes one of the many problems we have as believers. The problem of looking back. When God has done something or brought you out of something, the inclination is to look back over the situation. However, God pushes us to forget those things which are behind and press towards the back of the high calling in Christ Jesus. If you find yourself looking back over your mistakes, heartaches, disappointments and setbacks, please learn from Lot’s wife and not look back, but look forward with a new hope and promise that God will see you through.
Amen!
