06-03-2026 - John Scott | 2 Peter 3:9

I recently read the story of the prodigal son; one so many of us know. In this instance, I was led to the mind and heart of the father. How many of you have children who have drifted away from the family and their faith? How often have you prayed for their safety, concerned for not just their physical wellbeing; but their spiritual wellbeing also. The faith that father must have had as he wished for the return of his son.

Sometimes, in seasons of waiting, it may seem as though God is distant or delayed. But the passage in 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” gently reminds us that the heart of God is full of goodness. His patience is not indifference; it is mercy. He is not withholding His love from us, nor is He careless with His promises. Rather, in His goodness, He gives time for weary hearts to return, for wandering souls to be restored, and for grace to do its quiet work within us.

The Lord’s desire is not that anyone be lost, but that all would come near and know the safety of His redeeming love. Even when we do not understand His timing, we must Focus on Jesus and know we can rest in His character. God is kind, compassionate, and faithful, and every moment He gives is another expression of His tender mercy.

Peace & Blessings!

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your goodness and for the patience You show us each day. When we are tempted to question Your timing, help us to trust Your heart. Draw us closer to You, renew us by Your mercy, and let us rest in the comfort of Your faithful love. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
