#BeMore - Sowing & Reaping

03-11-2020 - John Scott | 2 Corinthians 9:10-11

Sharon was a woman of great character. She was a great mother, friend, neighbor and co-worker. Whenever or wherever she was needed, she would take advantage of every opportunity to help others or serve the community. She sponsored fundraisers, promoted events to showcase the community youth, and volunteered during summer vacation bible study.

Growing up, I often heard the phrase “You reap what you sow.” Grounded in scripture, we understand the importance of sowing good seed to reap a bountiful harvest. In other words, if you do good things, good things will be produced, and you will receive good in return. In Paul’s 2nd letter to the church in Corinth, he wrote, Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Cor. 9:10-11)

I was very fortunate. That great woman was my mother. Her dedication and commitment to serve left a lasting impression on me. Today, my commitment to “serve” via Galilean Ministries and other local and national charitable organizations is a direct result of the seeds she sowed into my life at a young age. As is so often said now, we should all strive to “pay it forward.” I’m blessed today because she paid it forward for me and many others.

Be more this year... by making your own commitment to sowing and reaping. Start by sowing into someone`s life. Get a pack of seeds full of truth, service and sacrifice and grow something beautiful. Then plant, water and be a cheerleader to someone that needs a hand up. True evangelism will take hold in that person’s life because they saw Christ in your act of service!
