#BeMore - Respectful

11-20-2019 - John Scott | Philippians 2:1-4

I once read a heart-warming story of one man’s act of kindness. Here is the account of the story from Reader’s Digest. When the supermarket clerk tallied up my groceries, I was $12 over what I had on me. I began to remove items from the bags, when another shopper handed me a $20 bill. “Please don’t put yourself out,” I told him. “Let me tell you a story,” he said. “My mother is in the hospital with cancer. I visit her every day and bring her flowers. I went this morning, and she got mad at me for spending my money on more flowers. She demanded that I do something else with that money. So, here, please accept this. It is my mother’s flowers.”

In our everyday life, how many opportunities do we encounter where we can show kindness and grace to another? If we choose each day to live a Christ-like life, we can trust that God will put us in a position to demonstrate His example to others. We can always decide to “…value others above yourselves (v.3), not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others” (v. 4).

BeMore…Be more respectful today by showing a greater kindness for your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Instead of selfishness and greed, choose compassion. Instead of harshness, show tenderness. Instead of conceit, show grace and humility. Above all, show love as Christ loved us!
