#BeMore - Courageous

05-22-2019 - John Scott | Psalms 46:1-5

Jimmy was a hardworking man. Jimmy was also a faithful man. Getting up every day to work was not just a duty and responsibility. Working, to provide for himself and his family, was a privilege. He knew it was a blessing from God. He would never say it was a means to an end because that would dismiss the grace God had lovingly blessed him with.

One day, he received “the call” that no one wants. It was the day he never thought would come; unemployment! He had worked almost 30 years; never without interruption. Now he faced the truth so many in our society have suffered. Now, his company reorganized, and he was out of a job. He spent his entire adult life spared from the hardships of a company downsizing and corporate layoffs. Now....what was he to do.

Several months had passed, no job. Call after call, finally an interview materialized. After 3 rounds of meetings over the phone and in person, Jimmy knew he had a great shot at the job. Unfortunately, disappointment again. The company went with another candidate. Was he just not good enough? Of course not, however; he still struggled with feelings of failure. How much more of this could he endure?

How many of us have faced this or similar struggles in life? Life is hard. No one said it would be easy or fair. Job loss, health scare, disease, addiction, financial hardship; we may see it all. If we do, I’m reminded of the words that Christ spoke in the gospel of John. ““I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”” — John 16:33 NIV. No matter what we face, we don’t have to be afraid. Our courage comes from a higher power!

Be-More courageous this year by not being afraid of failure. Don`t be a coward and stay on the sidelines. Be courageous. If you fail -- TRY AGAIN! “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 NIV). Put up your dukes and fight knowing that your God even fights for you! Even if you fall, get back up, shake it off and get in a defensive posture and square up. Lean in and fight the good fight of faith! Courageous comes from faith. Faith comes from trust. Trust comes from knowing our loving God!

God Bless You!
