03-07-2019 - John Scott | 1 Thessalonians 5:18

When I was a little boy, my mother taught me to always say thank you to those who do something nice for you. Saying thank you is a sign of appreciation and gratitude. However, the writer in 1st Thessalonians challenges us to give thanks in everything. It took me a while to grasp this charge by the writer. However, when I began to look beyond the text and understand the writer, I discovered that the writer was trying to help the Christians to appreciate everything God was and is doing in our life. Showing gratitude to God in everything helps us to see the big picture. I have quickly discovered that when I give thanks to God in every situation, I can clearly see how God is working in my life. Instead of looking for the big thing, I can see the little things God is doing each and every day in my life. If you want an attitude of gratitude, learn how to thank God for everything. Amen!!
