Have you experienced trials in your life? Okay, I know that seems like an obvious question. Since everyone’s hand is raised, let’s ask a more compelling question. How have you handled the trials you’ve encountered in your life? In my experience, we all have managed troubles in our lives differently. Sometimes life feels like a game show. You can call a friend or throw out a lifeline. Other times, we turn to things that we hope will take the pain away like drugs, alcohol or other destructive behaviors. Let’s examine one who knew exactly where his comfort came from.
The story of Daniel is familiar to many. Most people know how Daniel survived being thrown in to a den of lions. As remarkable as that was, the heart of the story starts with how he ended up there. In Daniel 6:7 NIV, “The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den.” Daniel, however, was a faithful follower of God. Despite the king’s decree, he prayed three times a day. When the king’s men discovered Daniel praying, they advised the king to enforce the penalty. Why? Jealousy! “Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.” Daniel 6:3 NIV
In Hebrews, it states, “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” ~Hebrews? ?10?:?36? ?NIV??. Despite the king’s decree, the plot of his servants and even the threat of the lions, God’s will and power is and will always be greater. When King Darius returned to the de, Daniel responded, “My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.”” ~Daniel? ?6?:?22? ?NIV????????
Whatever life brings to our door, we can embrace each day with the confidence of The Most High. The Psalmist wrote, “For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” ~Psalms? ?30?:?5? ?NIV??. When we Focus on Jesus, though troubles are inevitable, He will bring joy and comfort. Wait on Him!???
