Ezra tells the story of the rebuilding of the temple that was destroyed under Babylonian captivity. The new temple did not match the temple Solomon built. Those who remembered the old temple was hurt and distraught over the shortcomings of the new temple. Because they were distraught, their cries overshadowed the joys, resulting in confusion. Sometimes in life, we can be held hostage to the past and not appreciate what God is doing now. The people were without a temple for 50 years; yet, God made it possible for them to have a new one. Let’s not get so caught up in what we used to have, so as to prevent us from embracing and celebrating our present and future.
Amen!
