It was a sunny, bright afternoon. Ray was walking across the courtyard with his dog when he heard a voice call his name. As he looked up, he noticed Jenny on the other side of the courtyard, walking with her son. They started towards one another to stop and catch up. Out of the corner of his eye, Ray noticed a large bee near his head. Like any of us, he did his best to avoid the bee! Jenny reached out, as to give him a hug, and said to him, “I got you.” That small, simple gesture brought Ray a moment of comfort as he evaded the potential bee sting.
Does that sound familiar? Probably more so if you are allergic to bees, right?! How many times have you been in a situation; trying to avoid trouble, looking to escape danger. You find yourself dealing with circumstances where you need the comfort of a friend. That soothing voice or embrace that makes you feel as if all will be okay. Paul, writing his 2nd letter to the church in Corinth, reminds us that “…the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles…”
Comfort can come in many forms; a kind word, a card, flowers, or a warm hug. The great blessing is in finding others who God puts in our lives knowing that they will be there for us when we need that comfort. He knows each situation, knows what we need and always has a greater purpose for us; even in times of distress. When we Focus on Jesus ~ we will have the one source of comfort we will ever need; God the Father. He is all we need!
